For many SCUBA divers, nothing is more awesome than spotting a
SHARK!

Shark in Roatan

This was snapped by my good friend, Ian Drysdale,

in Roatan, Honduras.

  1. Hi Cassandra. How close was your friend to this shark? What kind of shark is it?

  2. I live in Roatan. Can you find out exactly where this was taken.

  3. Hello and thank you for the comments!

It is a gray reef shark (Carcharhinus sp.) and I was about 15 feet away. This site is on the south shore of Roatan, part of Cordelia Banks (also known as Insidiuos Reef), where Waihuka DIvers conducts their shark encounter dives. With help from WWF and Roatan Marine Park, we are pushing to get this area declared protected, as several scientific papers have shown that this might be the healthiest Acropora sp (staghorn and elkhorn coral) site in the entire Caribbean!

Great work, Cassandra! We hope to see you for Thanksgiving.

  4. cool Man! Have to make sure I visit there on my next trip. On another tip. tat musta scared the *** outta you.
